The
Harrington Group defines strengths on two different levels. On a
rudimentary level, strengths are the things you do well. Those strengths
may include conducting, persuading, promoting, relating, supporting,
coordinating, analyzing, or implementing.
On a more sophisticated level, a strength is any recurring pattern
of behavior, thoughts, and feelings that produces a high degree
of satisfaction and pride; generates both psychic and/or financial
reward; and presents measurable progress toward excellence.
Most companies hire and develop people based primarily on skills
and knowledge, and not nearly enough on natural strengths. Skills
and knowledge can be learned; strengths are inborn. Extensive research
has proven that individual strengths are more predictive of future
performance than skills and knowledge. Selecting for strengths is
critical, because strengths cannot be inserted or replaced by training.
There is no substitute for the innate strengths a person brings
to an organization.
Companies that do not select and develop people based on their
individual strengths are unlikely to gain a competitive advantage
through their human assets. They are unlikely to be able to develop
a group of productive, engaged employees that can ensure customer
loyalty and financial performance.
Through our Employee Screening System, we offer tools that
help organizations identify, select, and develop top performers,
based on an understanding of their individual strengths. We offer
two types of services, usually as an integrated system:
- Strengths-Based Hiring: Helps companies source and
screen job candidates based on their natural strengths.
- Strengths-Based Development: Helps people understand
and leverage their natural strengths for top performance.
